Grandpa’s Pizza: New York Pizza in Bonita Springs

New York City is a long way from Southwest Florida, but if you step into Grandpa’s Pizza in Bonita Springs, you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of the city that never sleeps.

If you ask anyone from New York, you’ll never find any pizza quite like New York style pizza. As a Southwest Florida native, I never knew what NY style pizza was until I met Sean. Unbeknownst to me until recently, it’s really hard to find a true piece of NY style pizza anywhere in Southwest Florida. And those that DO look for it will drive miles for a good slice.

And that’s where we introduce Grandpa’s Pizza in Bonita Springs.

Grandpa’s Pizza is a tiny pizzeria located on Old 41 in Downtown Bonita Springs. You wouldn’t know it from looking at the outside, but the pizza is incredible. There’s no inside seating, but you will find a couple of tables outside.

We assume that it’s the owners who are always working there. Walk in on any day of the week (except Sundays when they are closed) and you’ll see the same 3 people. After speaking to the owner, he’s from Long Island and then from Italy before that.

What to Get at Grandpa’s Pizza

So, if you’re on the lookout for a good slice of pizza in Bonita Springs, Grandpa’s is THE place to go. We live in Fort Myers, but we will make the 1 hour round trip ride to get Grandpa’s. Here’s what we’ve had so far (and honestly, everything has been amazing).

  • Cheese pizza – I’ve never been one to order just a slice of cheese pizza, but if you go to Grandpa’s, GET THE CHEESE. Also, add a little bit of garlic to it. I promise the end result will be ::chef’s kiss::.

  • Garlic knots – their garlic knots are also a must. They’re about as simple as garlic knots can be, but for $3.00 you get a dozen of them.

  • Margherita pizza – this is one that Sean really likes a lot. The tomatoes are fresh as fresh can be.

  • Meatball parm sub – they also serve hot and cold sandwiches. I’ve had the meatball parm several times and it’s one of my favorites.

  • Chicken parm sub – another favorite of ours. The chicken is breaded perfectly and they use the best combination of sauce and cheese. This is Sean’s favorite sandwich from here.

  • Sicilian – according to Sean, Sicilians are hard to find. Make sure you order this earlier in the day as most pizzerias tend to sell out of this quickly (including Grandpa’s).

We’ve tried a few other types of pizzas and they were all great, but these are the ones that stand out the most.

How to Order Grandpa’s Pizza

It’s important to note that this pizzeria in Bonita is cash-only. If you call to place an order and go to pick it up, make sure to bring cash with you. There’s an ATM inside as well.

They are also a part of the Slice network, where you can order online or on their app. We’ve used this several times (we’re terrible about keeping cash on us) and the process is seamless. But if you do this, make sure you tip generously as Slice likely takes a cut of the orders that come in.
